Who We Are

All of our therapists are professionally trained and accredited and are members of professional organisations, such as the BABCP and other governing bodies. Our therapists commit to continued training and personal development and undergo regular clinical supervision as a requirement for their ongoing registration. All therapists are DBS (previously CRB) checked. This provides safety for the client and the practitioner.

Janet Kingston-Davis

I am an experienced and accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist, in addition to having many years of nursing, midwifery, adult education and health visiting practice.

My additional academic qualifications and interests enable me to work in an integrative, flexible and sensitive manner. This is with either individuals or couples across a wide spectrum of anxiety and depressive disorders: In other words, I think ‘outside the box’!

My aim is to achieve the maximum benefit for you in the least amount of therapy sessions: in other words a brief intervention to get you back on your feet.

I have a special skill and passion for helping women and their partners overcome the impact of a traumatic birth experience or the very sad loss of a baby at any stage of gestation.

My other interests, skills and qualifications are around family functioning, parenting and inter-personal communication which have developed from all my professional roles, including teaching life skills to soldiers in a military corrective training centre.

These interests came about from my realisation that despite academic achievements, I was ill-equipped to manage a relationship and a large family. My wish is to pass these skills on to help you enjoy the family and relationships you might always have wished for.

Leonie O’Loughlin

I am an experienced and accredited Cognitive Behavioral Therapist, fully trained in Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) and have worked in the field of mental health for many years. As a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist I have worked extensively with clients experiencing the full range of anxiety and depressive disorders and with survivors of sexual abuse and trauma.

I have developed particular interests in working with people with anxiety disorders such as PTSD (trauma) , Obsessive Compulsive Disorder , Phobias (including intensive treatments) and Panic, I also specialize in working with people with Emotional Intensity Disorder.

Having overcome my own mental health issues I am very aware of how hard it can be to take the first step, challenge fears and overcome barriers to recovery. This has contributed to my passion to work holistically and creatively with people in a way that recognizes their uniqueness and seeks individual solutions to their problems.

Prior to training as Psychotherapist I spent many years working in the field of addictions and with adult survivors of sexual abuse as a qualified and accredited Social Worker.

In my spare time I love to unwind by spending time with my family, reading, walking, riding and practicing yoga and mindfulness.

Amanda Lovitt

I have worked in the NHS for the past 16 years in mental health and managing crisis services. After qualifying as a mental health nurse in 1994 I qualified as a CBT therapist and IPT therapist working within an Essex IAPT service.

With a strong interest in Suicide Prevention I completed a one year fellowship as the Eastern region lead for suicide prevention at the National Institute for Mental Health in England (NIMHE). I have a long term passion to improve services for individuals experiencing personality problems and Emotional Intensity Disorder and I’ve trained in the delivery of a specialist group programme, Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving (STEPPS).

This programme has shown early successes for improving symptoms of Emotional Intensity Disorder (EID) and is one of only a small number to be run in the UK.

Mike Davis Company Secretary

As a one-time professional photographer turned film-maker, I served 19 years at Colchester's premium Further Education College as Senior Lecturer in Educational Technology. At that time experiential learning and innovation were key and I became involved in evaluating and implementing many exciting, cutting edge technologies.

Now in retirement, when Janet and her colleagues first talked of starting The Therapy Clinic, I was able to help in setting up the company on a sound basis. Today, in addition to overseeing the finances and maintaining our web site, I'm often called upon to brew a decent cup of coffee and keep the grandchildren occupied during board meetings

“  . . . I think the work you do is outstanding and you have had an amazing impact on my life  . .”
